A workshop to explain the guide to using artificial intelligence in scientific research

The Media Department at Al-Alamein Institute for Graduate Studies in Najaf organized a workshop to explain the policy guide for using artificial intelligence tools in scientific research at Iraqi universities. The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Safad Hussam Hammoudi, Professor of Digital Media and Artificial Intelligence.

The workshop comes within the directives of the Research and Development Department at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding the necessity for Iraqi universities and institutes to organize workshops to clarify the mechanisms of the guide issued by the Ministry to enhance the quality of scientific research and adherence to its ethics, which focuses on achieving a delicate balance between encouraging innovation and benefiting from modern technologies on the one hand, and preserving scientific originality, academic values and the reliability of research on the other hand, in accordance with the international standards adopted in reputable higher education institutions.

In his workshop, which witnessed academic interaction from the attending faculty and students, Dr. Safad Al-Shammari explained the objectives of the policy for using artificial intelligence tools, its benefits and scope of application, clarifying the definitions of plagiarism with these tools, including organizational, exploratory, summative, analytical, interpretive, generative and referential, reviewing the risks associated with these plagiarisms, and the permissible uses.

The workshop also clarified the responsibilities of the researcher, the academic supervisor, and the university, according to the provisions of the guide, and the violations and penalties resulting from non-compliance with its policies, for faculty members when preparing scientific research, academic supervision, or arbitration, and for postgraduate students in higher diploma, master's, and doctoral programs, researchers in university research centers, scientific research submitted for publication, university theses and dissertations, undergraduate graduation projects, as well as scientific evaluation and arbitration processes.

The workshop provided a detailed explanation of the form for disclosing the use of artificial intelligence tools in scientific research, which provides a general statement to those covered by it acknowledging the use of those tools, identifying their types, nature and places of use, as well as the type of plagiarism used.
