The Department of Political Science was established at the Alamein
Institute for Graduate Studies in 2007. It awards Master’s and Doctorate
degrees in Political Science. Dozens of students have graduated with political
topics that dealt with many local, regional and international issues and in
various sub-specialties. The department has held many seminars, conferences and
workshops related to Iraqi, regional and international political affairs..
Second: Vision
The vision of the Department of Political Science stems from the
following:
1. Provide students
with scientific knowledge and modern information on the study of various
political phenomena (locally, regionally and internationally),
2. A broader
understanding of the topics of political thought, political systems,
international relations, and strategy within a scientific, methodological, and
analytical framework, which develops students’ intellectual abilities, research
proficiency, and thinking styles in the field of political science and its
various cognitive areas.
3. Excellence in
scientific specialization in acquisition performance as well as achieving
leadership in serving and developing society and dealing with its issues and
developments. And using all modern technologies to achieve excellence.
4. Establish
scientific partnerships with various institutions, universities and academic
institutions in line with the department’s specialization.
5. Graduating
specialized scientific cadres by preparing and qualifying political leaders
capable of assuming responsibility in facing political challenges.
6. Human development
events to create a society of well-being and prosperity, as well as preparing
and developing training programs in the fields of political science to serve
state institutions to improve the performance and efficiency of their
employees.
7. Organize and hold
scientific seminars and conferences aimed at deepening and disseminating
culture and knowledge of modern political concepts.
Third: The Mission
Preparing specialized cadres in political science and leadership
in conducting political research and studies and transferring knowledge, with
the aim of serving and developing society, by giving the student the
opportunity to become acquainted with the most important theoretical issues,
methodological problems and basic trends in the field of contemporary political
science.
Fourth: Objectives
The department’s objectives can be summarized as follows:

Prepare and qualify students in the fields of political science
and providing them with a high level of knowledge.

Develop students’ ability to analyze and predict political
phenomena and developments.

Qualify students intellectually and academically, developing their
skills in research, writing, and participating in discussion and dialogue, thus
contributing to refining their personalities and developing their abilities in
creative thinking.

Prepare senior cadres specialized in political sciences, qualified
to lead change and confront future challenges.
·
Create a state of intellectual intelligence through theoretical
and applied linking of local, regional and international events and issues.
·
Develop scientific research methods and approaches in political
science and employing them to explain and analyze various political phenomena.
·
Adhere to scientific standards in developing education and
controlling quality standards and academic accreditation.
·
Striving to develop the scientific capabilities of faculty members
and benefit from them in the educational process.
Fifth: Certificates granted by the department

is two academic years, with two semesters (15 weeks each), and a master’s
thesis must be submitted.

PhD in Political Science (Political Systems, Political Thought,
International Relations).

submission of a doctoral thesis.
