On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Private Law Department at Al-Alamein Institute for Graduate Studies held a scientific workshop on scientific research methodology with the aim of developing the research capabilities of the department’s students and enabling them to prepare sound legal research in accordance with approved scientific principles.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Mansour Hatem, a lecturer in the Private Law Department at Al-Alamein Institute for Graduate Studies and a faculty member at the College of Law, University of Babylon. During his lecture, he reviewed the basic stages of writing a scientific research paper, beginning with choosing a suitable title. He explained that the title selection stage is immediately followed by the process of gathering scientific sources, emphasizing the importance of taking one's time and not beginning to write before gathering a sufficient number of sources that comprehensively cover the research topic. He noted that the process of gathering sources does not end until the research paper is completed, and that the researcher may encounter essential and useful sources after starting to write. Therefore, the researcher must update what has been written, and this updating continues until the research paper is submitted to the academic department.
He explained that the researcher, during the writing stage, should begin by writing the local legal rules if the text exists, even if the local law does not address them. It is possible for the researcher to start with comparative law. The researcher should also reach the point of adopting proposed legal rules that address the subject of the study in the absence of the text, and submit proposals to amend the texts of the local law if they are not sufficient to address the subject.
The workshop concluded with an open discussion between the students and the lecturers, during which all questions and inquiries regarding scientific research were answered.
