Al-Alamein Institute For Postgraduate Studies In Najaf Al-Ashraf


On the sidelines of a symposium held in his memory in Al-Alamein, Al-Khalili’s name was given to a street in Najaf and a hall in Al-Alamein.

On Monday, February 9, 2026, the Governor of Najaf, Engineer Youssef Kanawi, announced that one of the main streets in Najaf would be named after the encyclopedic scholar Jaafar Al-Khalili. This announcement came during his attendance at a research seminar held at the Al-Tusi Hall in Al-Alamein Institute, in cooperation with the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, the Bahr Al-Uloom Charitable Foundation, Al-Alamein Institute for Graduate Studies, and the Kufa Academy in the Netherlands, under the title "The Encyclopedic Scholar Jaafar Al-Khalili and His Pioneering Role in Documenting the Holy Shrines." Kanawi stated in a message to the seminar's administration that it was decided to name one of the main streets in Najaf after the encyclopedic scholar Jaafar Al-Khalili in commemoration of him.

On the other hand, in response to the call of His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Uloom, the General Supervisor, the Deanship of Al-Alamein Institute and the Head of the Media Department at the Institute named one of the classrooms of the Master of Media Department at the Institute after the journalist and writer “Jaafar Al-Khalili”. The Dean of Al-Alamein Institute for Graduate Studies, Professor Dr. Zaid Adnan Al-Akeeli, said that the decision came in implementation of the directives of His Excellency the General Supervisor, and as a contribution from the Institute to immortalize the name of this Najafi and Iraqi scholar in the history of Iraqi journalism.
