As part of national efforts to document Iraq's environmental heritage and formulate a cognitive vision that contributes to addressing the challenges of climate and water change, the executive team of the Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia project continues its series of meetings with ministries and specialized institutions. This follows the official launch of the project on July 19, 2025, as a pioneering and unprecedented step in Iraq.

The team met with Dr. Mithaq Al-Khafaji, Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Eng. Hussein Abdul Amir Bakkah, Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, and Ambassador Dr. Hisham Al-Alawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Planning.

The undersecretaries expressed their full support for the project and their ministries' willingness to provide technical expertise and knowledge contributions to enhance the encyclopedia's scientific and practical content. They considered this national project an important reference platform for researchers, decision-makers, and those interested in environmental affairs, and contributed to building a comprehensive database that would serve Iraq in formulating its future environmental policies.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Uloom, Chairman of the Bahr Al-Uloom Charitable Foundation, stressed that the launch of the Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia project comes in response to an urgent national need for a comprehensive scientific reference that documents Iraq's environmental heritage and reflects its natural richness and ecological diversity. He added that we believe that this project represents a firm commitment by the Foundation to its national responsibilities towards the challenges facing Iraq, and it also represents a strategic step towards strengthening cooperation between the state, society, and academic institutions. He explained that our goal is for the encyclopedia to be a scientific and knowledge-based platform that contributes to protecting Iraq's natural resources and lays a solid foundation for a more sustainable future for generations.

The Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia project is the first initiative of the Alamein Center for Environmental Studies, Climate Change, and Water. The center aims to serve as an intellectual and scientific incubator for research and knowledge projects that enhance community and decision-makers' awareness of environmental issues and support national efforts to protect natural resources and achieve sustainable development.
