A meeting between the Chairman of the Bahr Al-Ulum Foundation and the Minister of Environment
Bahr Al-Ulum: The Environmental Encyclopedia is a national project that aims to establish environmental awareness and develop environmental policies.
A meeting was held at the Ministry of Environment between His Excellency Dr. Hee Lu Al-Askari, Minister of Environment, and His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Uloom, Chairman of the Bahr Al-Uloom Charitable Foundation. The meeting was attended by Dr. Nazir Abboud Fazaa and Dr. Ammar Al-Atta, advisors to the Minister of Environment, along with a delegation of researchers participating in the preparation of the Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia. The meeting was held within the framework of joint cooperation between the two sides.
The Minister of Environment welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his support for the project through the memorandum of understanding signed with the Bahr Al-Uloom Charitable Foundation. He also praised the initiatives adopted by the foundation in recent years, including the Thirst for Iraq project, which represented a model of integrated work between non-governmental organizations and the Ministry of Environment.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Bahr Al-Uloom, the General Supervisor, confirmed that the Environmental Encyclopedia project represents the fruit of three continuous years of research efforts in the Thirst for Iraq project, and came in response to the recommendations of the dialogue tables with neighboring water countries, which stressed the importance of establishing an independent scientific center concerned with the environment, climate change and water. This trend was embodied in the establishment of the Alamein Center for Environment, Climate Change and Water, as the encyclopedia is the first of its scientific works. Bahr Al-Uloom explained that more than (70) researchers from various Iraqi universities will participate in the encyclopedia project, making it an institutional knowledge product of strategic value, pointing out that achieving its goals cannot be achieved without the contribution of the relevant ministries and their specialized experts.
The meeting included a number of academic contributions from the participating delegation, including a presentation by Professor Abdul Hamid Al-Abidi on the encyclopedia's central idea and proposed working mechanisms, as well as a review of the volumes and chapters it will contain and the timeline for its completion.
The meeting concluded with the Minister of Environment affirming his ministry's commitment to supporting the project and providing the necessary support to enhance its chances of success. Dr. Bahr Al-Uloom reiterated the importance of the institutional partnership between the two sides, appreciating the Ministry of Environment's supportive stances and its commitment to the success of national initiatives related to the environment and sustainable development.
The Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia, sponsored by the Bahr Al-Ulum Charitable Foundation, is a foundational step in formulating an integrated national vision for addressing environmental challenges in Iraq. It is not only a documentation and knowledge project, but also a tool for strategic planning and environmental decision-making based on scientific knowledge and institutional partnerships. This project will contribute to consolidating Iraq's position within regional and international efforts to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development goals.
