The importance of media is growing with scientific and technological progress in the fields of communication and artificial intelligence. Providing a conducive scientific and academic environment is crucial to strengthening the educational process and providing the necessary infrastructure, most notably media personnel, researchers, and practitioners. The vision of the Department of Media at the Alamein Institute of Graduate Studies is directed toward the methodological integration required to supply the labor market, including scientific research institutions, with researchers capable of keeping pace with the technological acceleration in mass communication and possessing a critical vision.
Mission of the Media Department at the Institute
The mission of the Institute's Media Department is to empower students in the department to assume their professional, academic, and national responsibilities by encouraging participation and expanding the base of media researchers, capable of monitoring and addressing emerging problems resulting from the introduction of artificial intelligence applications and the challenges of misinformation.
Objectives of the Media Department at the Institute
1. Prepare media specialists with higher degrees.
2. Complete post-master’s study requirements, starting in the next two years,
with the aim of graduating the first batch of PhD holders.
3. Attract the best instructors, especially in the fields of media research
methods, digital media, and generative artificial intelligence.
4. Provide media
institutions in both the public and private sectors with graduates in
journalism, radio, television, public relations, and related rapid technical
developments, as well as holding semester courses and awarding diplomas in
media.
Activities of the Media Department
1. Hold seminars and discussion groups of high seriousness and a tendency
towards training and discovering the latent experiences and skills of students.
2. Openness to media institutions to interact with them and help them overcome
the challenges of new generations of technologies and the negative uses of
communication devices.
3. Transform theoretical scientific lectures into practical lessons learned,
to devise new titles for theses and dissertations that offer proposals and
solutions to the problems identified in the media sector in Iraq.
4. Establish scientific forums that enable students and researchers to interpret social phenomena and their relationship to the media.
Master’s degree in Media Sciences
The study period is two academic years, with two semesters (15 weeks each), and a master’s thesis must be submitted.
Certificates Granted by Media Department
1. Currently it offers a master’s degree in public media, considering the
students' desire and academic progress in their undergraduate studies.
2. Graduates are encouraged to obtain a PhD in similar departments and
colleges, pending completion of the requirements for the PhD window opening.
3. Endeavor to provide opportunities for those wishing to obtain a
postgraduate diploma in media.
